2025-07-08, originally a comment on the gremlin tracker
not really gremlins but interesting broadcast nerdery
there was an earthquake during sunday songbook on 2025-07-06, in the Tokara islands
seems all stations aired the warning (was trying to find a clean one for listening lol)
not knowing anything about how it works, i would have expected the warning to be inserted locally by the stations in the area that's actually affected
but i guess when theyre all taking the network feed then its inserted there
idk if ^it being inserted locally is ever the case
also interesting, you can kind of hear how the JFN "works"
on FMT
3 secs of silence for some stations to play a time signal
~10s station jingle
silence for stations to opt in
then programme starts at :15s
programme proper ends at 52:49 in this case
then national ads
then opt out at 53:40, station jingle
then the stations do as they wish, ie local ads
it looks like some stations have different levels of lag behind Tokyo but this might just be timing issues with the recordings, per #23
interestingly the tokyo fm ver on radiko is only 54 mins long instead of the correct 55
they still run local ads but theyre cut off on the songbook page, they over-run into the next programme's page
and then the next programme starts at 14:54:30s???
i guess that explains why songbook is cut off but honestly it raises more questions than answers
some other programme would be more interesting to look at probably
like eg school of lock which is live, runs local ads during the programme, and has segments some stations dont take
"the whole enchilada"
