I don't listen to the british radio very much
they make it a pain in the arse to listen on catch up
and a lot of it seems to be just like, long shows taking you through the day, ie not really for catch up anyway
i'm sure there's lots of good stuff really but idk how to find it
youtube men
- Andrew Huang - really cool music man
- やまかわてるき - funny telephone man
- 宮甚商店 - old man makes speakers radios and valve amplifiers
- Ben Eater - "i built my own computer" but he actually did (not just assembling pre-made parts)
- MattKC - stuff mostly about gaymen/technology behind it, reverse engineering it
- mitxela - electronics making man
- Captain Disillusion - VFX "debunks"/breakdowns. don't mind the makeup
- Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games. Also in Japanese.
- ExplainingComputers - Welcome to another video from Explaining Computers... dot com. - its what it says on the tin, a lot of it looks at raspberry pi/SBC things. he speaks a bit slowly so i recommend watching at 1.75x speed
to some extent this is the classic problem of self-reporting "what i ought to watch" rather than "what i actually watch" but i do watch these when they come out and they're very good
but the rest of the time is just filled with rubbish/clips off the telly/podcasts etc -- "daily slop"
damn almost like making quality takes time or something
tv/テレビ
- Question Time - "topical debate". Also on BBC Sounds worldwide (audio only).
- サイエンスZERO - stuff about science. peak television
- Would I Lie to You? - iPlayer (newer seasons), UKTV Play (older seasons) - Panel show w/funne stories. i mostly watch clips on youtube to be honest
- QI - same as ^above really
- dads army, blackadder, fawlty towers, two ronnies - "classic" comedy - no links because i watched on dvd
- 水曜日のダウンタウン - prank show/"i wonder if...". i dont watch often but when i do its quite funne, they do tend to go a bit far though
- Japanology Plus - with Peter Barakan. it's quite nice but i do think he's better in japanese
- NHK World in general has some interesting programmes if i can be bothered to watch them but usually i can't
its on freeview channel 272 but it doesnt work properly on our tv sadly (older model lg)
- The local BBC news/"the news where you are" which i won't link here for hopefully obvious reasons
i do see lots of good things on the telly, or they have promos that look interesting but it never really penetrates into my routine like radio stuff does
maybe if i had a tv in my room lol
i cant be bothered with dramas telling a long overarching story i just want to sit down and be entertained
software
+ the obvious stuff like ffmpeg, firefox, linux mint, gimp etc
hardware
"my setup"
collapsed because really this is just self-indulgent bullshit no one cares about just like the rest of the page, if you really want to see it you can click below
- Roberts R727 radio - does FM + MW/LW/SW, sounds quite nice but not too nice, runs off batteries as well
last model made in the UK apparently
- this USB bluetooth-fm adapter to turn it into a bluetooth speaker.
it's only mono and it does have a bit of a chinese accent, but it works
sold out on that link but im sure you can find it elsewhere
only one frequency (87.5) is usable for me because there are actual stations on the other ones
also it does shit up the surrounding frequencies a bit, but oh well hopefully the neighbours/people driving past dont listen to radio 2
- current cd/dvd player is a Panasonic DMP-BD60
- Previously it was a mysterious chinese/japanese/hungarian "Alpha" A-838, it had a spinning pizza wheel and the whole disc tray lit up blue
it was quite nice though in that it was multistandard + region free (and it had the plugs i needed for my monitor, otherwise i wouldve used one of the Sonys also in the pile)
might write up the mysteriousness one day
- before that it was a nice Pioneer DV-565a, but the DVD laser died... :(
- Dell SK-8135 keyboard
- random usb mouse with the logo worn off, might have been a HP? previously same one but PS2
- Wharfedale Programme 20 speakers
- i use a thinkpad t460p but i dont really like it that much, i want t400 case with more powerful internals + nicer screen
bigger trackpad is quite nice though
apparently this model was one of the last with the docking connector... next computer will not be a thinkpad
- Thinkpad docking station is good because i can have "desktop" and laptop be one machine
- Sony XA2 telephone, it works, camera is quite nice
- Canon G12 camera, also quite nice but in a different way
- Sennheiser HD300's are nice headphones for chucking in the bag and using when out and about
- NEC Multisync LCD 4010 - big power guzzling room-heating screen
